Data Encryption Product Available

The Office of Information Technology has purchased McAfee Endpoint Encryption (formerly Safeboot Encryption) for the protection of critical data.

The Office of Information Technology cordially invites university departments to employ Full Disk Encryption (FDE) for Windows devices. Encrytpion protects data from exposure in the event of the loss or theft of a device.  Laptops and workstations are the primary targets.

Important product features:

  • no charge for Safeboot licenses access
  • no annual maintenance fees
  • installation instructions and assistance
  • centralized password recovery (for lost or forgotten passwords)

Some departments have installed Safeboot already and I'd like to use up the remaining Safeboot licenses over the summer. While Rutgers has the opportunity to purchase additional licenses at a huge discount, the pricing does expire.  A decision must be made in early fall as to how many (and whether) to purchase more.

Please contact safeboot-support@ess.rutgers.edu by  August 1, 2008  with the # of devices to encrypt as well as your deployment timeframe.  OIT will work with you to help you protect your data.
