 The United States and the European Union have agreed to treatcybersecurity , cyber crime and data protection as international issues, cooperatively developing polices based on shared values.

NIST would be responsible for developing a plan to coordinate the government’s work with international organizations developing cybersecurity standards under the bill approved by the House Science and Technology Committee’s Technology and Innovation Subcommittee.

The phishing schemes mainly targeted Bank of America and Wells Fargo online banking users and were run from Egypt. Criminals sought to duplicate the bank’s online banking portals by creating authentic-looking replicas; mass email messages were subsequently sent to a great number of Bank of America and Wells Fargo online users, directing them to the false websites and asking them to enter their secret account login details, as well as other types of sensitive personal information such as their bank account numbers, Social Security numbers and drivers’ license numbers.

A two-year international phishing investigation involving the FBI and authorities in Egypt has led to charges against 53 people in the U.S. and 47 overseas.

Researchers in Canada have shed new light on what appears to be a systematic attempt to infect and compromise computers belonging to journalists working in China – an attack that coincides with a security clampdown in the country as Beijing's Communist government celebrates its 60th anniversary.

he measure, known as Fostering a Global Response to Cyber Attacks Act, would require the secretary of state to report to Congress within 270 days of the bill's enactment about the efforts to work with foreign governments to improve IT security.
