Microsoft Advises on SMB Vulnerability

Microsoft has issued an advisory for the vulnerability in the SMB2 protocol revealed yesterday. The big news is that, contrary to earlier reports, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are not affected by the flaw. The release candidate of Windows 7 is, as are all versions of Vista and earlier versions of Windows Server 2008.

Phony Antivirus Poses as Microsoft’ MSRT

 
Security researchers at Computer Associates, a software developing company, are warning about a newly unleashed fake antivirus program that pretends to be the MSRT (Malicious Software Removal Tool) from Microsoft. The program falls among the Win32/FakeAV group of malicious software.
