IPS offers digital forensic examination of network devices on behalf of departments.  Contact abuse@rutgers.edu to engage our services. 

Overview

 
The RU CIRT accepts requests for digital forensic examinations under limited conditions:

• Determine if NPPI was accessed
• Isolate malware
• Detect intrusion vector

IPS recommends an outside firm for matters involving civil or criminal litigation or employee disciplinary matters. 
 

Process

 
Upon request, IPS staff will meet with appropriate departmental staff for an initial review and preliminary assessment. 
 
Prior to the examination:

• statement of work and project scope agreed upon by both the department and IPS
• disk image created by Computer Repair according to IPS specifications
  • wipe the target disk as per DoD specifications
  • image the source disk
  • target disk must be USB external device
  • source disk maintained securely until examination complete
