OIT purchased McAfee Endpoint Encryption product (formerly Safeboot Encryption) for use within the University. There is no charge to university departments for the software. Contact safeboot-support@ess.rutgers.edu for further information.

Because OIT obtained attractive pricing through the federal government, software encryptionis available to university departments without charge for the software or annual maintenance.   The chosen product is McAfee Endpoint Encryption  (formerly Safeboot Encryption). Departments are encouraged to implement encryption on machines with critical data, especially for laptops and other portable devices.

For departments using the service, OIT requires designation of a departmental administrator.  Windows systems administration experience and Administrator access are necessary.  Departmental administrators are expected to:

• install the software (with assistance from OIT)
• help users recover forgotten passwords
• maintain the list of authorized users for the department 

Conversely, OIT expects to:

• provide access the encryption software to departments
• assist departmental staff in the installation process
• monitor and maintain the server software and hardware
