ScanMe Tool

The SCANME Tool is a vulnerability scanner that can be used by any machine on the university's network to run a quick and convenient vulnerability scan to identify weaknesses or irregularities on your system. By clicking the button below, you will request a scan of the machine you are browsing with. Once that scan completes, a detailed report is then sent to the email specified in your request. It will only scan one machine per request. To automatically request a scan, simply enter in the email address you would like to recieve the report, and hit the SCANME button at the bottom of this page. A blank report usually means that you have a firewall blocking the scanners or have no externally viewable services.

While steps have been taken to make scanning safer, it is by no means a completely safe technology. Please take care when scanning critical production level machines and make sure you have permission to scan a host before you submit a scan. If you are a network administrator that would like to restrict machines from requesting scans of themselves, please contact us!

If you are a systems administrator and would like to use this tool on a machine where it may be inconvenient to use a web brower to view this page, you can easily craft an appropriate URL by setting the "scanemail" variable in the page request. You may then use a tool such as wget or lynx to request the scan.

The SCANME Tool uses the Nessus vulnerability scanner. The scan conducted is a generic one. If you require more customised settings or a different form of output from the tool, you are encouraged to visit http://www.nessus.org/ and try configuring your own copy of the tool to suit your needs. It's a free download! Additionally, if you are responsible for a network or IP at Rutgers University which you would like to see restricted from using this tool, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sorry, this service is only available from within RUNet.
