Security Operations Center

The Security Operations Center is responsible for managing information security services for perimeter, data center, and organizational units throughout the university.

Security posture

In order to provide effective, enhanced security controls, the following services are provided:

  • Intrusion prevention systems
  • Vulnerability scanning
  • Regulatory and audit advisory
  • Web content filtering
  • Report generation
  • Incident response

Firewalls

The Security Operations Center currently manages over 100 departmental, perimeter, and data-center firewalls. Associated tasks include:

  • Hardware and software upgrades
  • Access policy maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Health monitoring and alerting
  • New deployment installation and design

Partnerships

Collaborate with business partners to design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot secure communications for essential services, most notably:

  • RWJBarnabas/Rutgers Health
  • University Hospital
  • Birth defects registry member hospitals
  • University Physicians Associates
  • Rutgers University Foundation

Routine requests that include all the necessary information should be completed within that time frame (e.g., access rules). More complex changes vary in time to resolution (e.g., equipment installation, S2S VPN). Urgent issues will receive attention upon receipt. We can also be reached by email for requests that need additional information.

Remote access

Virtual private network (VPN)

Allows remote computers to behave as though they were directly attached to the campus network infrastructure.

Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) Gateway

Provides RDP access to university desktops from outside networks without requiring VPN connections
