Malware refers to computer viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spyware and adware. In other words, that category of software created with malicious intent.
The Rutgers Antivirus Delivery Service (RADS) installs anti-virus and anti-spyware technology. The software suite includes coverage for worms, adware and Trojan horses as well. It can be used both to prevent and to remedy.
The University Software Portal provides anti-spyware software as well. Search for "spyware".
Other malware and rootkit removal programs can be found on the AntiRootKit site.
If issues persist after attempts to clear with anti-virus software, consider the host beyond repair and treat the matter the same as an intrusion.
